Get the Look: Boots and Boards from Burton

Tuesday, February 17, 2015 1:03:44 PM America/Chicago

Burton is a classic snowboard and apparel company that has been a favorite of snowboard pros and fans for years. Through the use of bright and bold colors and patterns, and innovative technology, Burton has been a go-to for snowboard enthusiasts everywhere since they made their first snowboard in 1977, just a season before we opened the doors at St. Bernard Sports for the first time.

Burton’s Women’s line combines functionality with on trend style and patterns. For a cool and fierce look, we love pairing the TWC Wanderlust Snowboard Jacket with the Lucky Snowboard Pants and Ritual Snowboard Boot. Combined with neutral or white gloves and goggles, this snow leopard inspired outfit is fierce, stylish, and wearable. The removable fur trim and DRYRIDE Durashell 2-layer fabric make this jacket extra insulating and warm, without sacrificing the wearer’s movement. To complete this ensemble, we recommend pairing this look with the Lipstick Board and EST Binding for a cohesive and polished look. For a more vibrant look, the Radiant Snowboard Jacket pairs great with the bright Skyline Snowboard pant and Axel Snowboard boots.  For added color, pair the Genesis EST Snowboard Bindings and Custom Flying V Snowboard board with this look. We love this look because it is fun and easy to wear, making it one of our favorite go-to outfits!

For Men, Burton’s apparel and gear are stylish and polished, without being boring! For a cool and relaxed look, pair Burton’s TWC Headliner Jacket with the Southside Mid Fit Pants. To complete this look, add a pop of red with the Cartel EST Snowboard Bindings, Process Flying V Snowboard, and Ambush Snowboard Boots. This look is age appropriate while remaining fun and functional. If printed apparel is more of your aesthetic, try pairing the camouflage printed Southside Snowboard pant with the insulating Hellbrook Jacket and Ion Leather Snowboard Boots. To finish off this look, throw on the effortless Billboard Heritage Beanie. The camouflage in this look makes this look interesting and current, guaranteeing it to be one of your favorites this season.

Guest Post: Loubies and Lulu's Guide to Skiing Taos

Monday, January 19, 2015 4:10:39 PM America/Chicago

Hello! I’m Andrea, from the blog, Loubies and Lulu. I grew up in Taos, New Mexico, and I love to share my favorite spots in Taos and Taos Ski Valley with friends planning a trip. I have called Dallas home for 12 years now, but I return to Taos several times a year to visit my family and enjoy my hometown. Taos is a unique town, with a character all its own. You will discover this when you visit, and I hope my suggestions help you find some of your favorites, too! When friends ask me to give recommendations, it is difficult for me narrow it down, because there are so many must-sees and must do’s! Below, I am highlighting some of my all time favorites:

Taos Ski Valley: This is definitely a must if you love to ski! They opened the mountain up to snowboarding as well a few years ago, so now that is an option, too. Don’t be intimidated by the expert run you see first thing at the base. There are lots of beginner and intermediate runs, too, and they have an awesome ski school. It’s where I learned! Taos has world-class skiing in a gorgeous setting. You can stay in the ski valley, or in town just a short drive away. The Hotel St. Bernard, the Inn at Snakedance, and Edelweiss Lodge are all fabulous choices that put you at the base of the mountain, ready for your day on the slopes. Also check out Le Petit Café on the deck of the Hotel St. Bernard for delicious coffee from Hawaii.

Orlando’s New Mexican Café: I have to go here at least once during my stays! My favorite thing on the menu is their enchiladas. I get either the Blue Corn Chicken smothered with Green Chile, or the Blue Corn Shrimp Enchiladas smothered with Red Chile. If you can’t decide on “red” or “green,” choose both and ask for “Christmas!” This is a very small and cozy restaurant that fills quickly. If you can’t get in, head over to their other restaurant in town, Station Café 316, for some of the same menu items, including the enchiladas.

Taos Cow: Located in Arroyo Seco, between Taos and Taos Ski Valley. This spot is worth the short drive for delicious, all natural, rBGH free, super-premium ice cream! They make the best southwestern inspired flavors, plus traditional favorites. My favorites are Cherry Ristra (cherry ice cream with pinon nuts and dark chocolate chunks), Lavender (flavored with organic culinary lavender), Pinon Caramel (vanilla ice cream with pinon nuts and vanilla caramel swirl), Mexican Chocolate (chocolate ice cream with cinnamon and dark chocolate chunks), and Café Ole (coffee ice cream with cinnamon and dark chocolate chunks). In addidion to their wonderful ice cream they also offer breakfast, lunch, and specialty coffee drinks.

Twirl Playspace & Toy Store: An essential stop if you have children! During the summer months you can play in their courtyard just steps away from Taos Plaza. Inside you will find a toy store with unique toys and gifts for kids of all ages, as well as an indoor play space. You really have to experience it to do it justice! Its such a cool playspace and meeting spot. When we are in Taos, we visit Twirl almost daily. When you are finished, you can walk over to the John Dunn Shops and stop at Coffee Cats for a coffee, iced tea, or Italian soda and sit and listen to live music. Or take a walk around the plaza and browse the shops! Another great coffee spot right outside the plaza is World Cup.

The Love Apple: This cozy, intimate restaurant emphasizes local, organic home cooking. It is housed in what was once a Chapel, and was built around the 1800s. During the summer months, their patio is one of the best spots in Taos for a meal out! It is their priority to work with and feature local growers and artisan producers in their menus. The food here is simple and delicious! A couple of my favorite things on their menu are the bacon wrapped figs to start, and the grilled ruby rainbow trout wrapped in corn husks. Their wine selection is great, too!

Cid’s Food Market: Stop by this natural grocery store to stock up on snacks and essentials before heading to the ski valley. They have the largest selection of natural, organic, gourmet, and local foods and products in Taos. Or have lunch there, at their fully stocked salad and soup bar. They also have lots of pre-packaged healthy meals to go.

Pizanos:  New York style pizza with a Taos twist, it is a must!  The "Fire Twirler" is a favorite, with pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeño, and green chile.  Also love the "Let It Grow" pizza, which is loaded with veggies.  During the summer months, their fenced in patio is the perfect place have a drink, let the kids play, and watch an unforgettable Taos sunset!  Also on the menu are pastas, salads, and "tunnel" sandwiches.

I could go on and on, but also be sure to take a break from all the delicious culinary offerings in Taos to see the landmarks and historical areas! The Gorge Bridge, Taos Pueblo, Ranchos Church, and the great museums and galleries are all things to keep you busy on your visit. And, if after all the yummy Northern New Mexico treats, you feel the need to get your workout on, head over to the Taos Spa and Tennis Club, Aura Fitness, or Shree Yoga. I hope you discover all that Taos has to offer and fall in love with the beautiful, magical place that it is!

Thanks, Andrea, for sharing your favorite spots in Taos on the St Bernard Sports blog. To see how Andrea preps for a strong ski season, check out her blog, Loubies and Lulu
